How SuperBIO can strengthen your BBI proposal

What is BBI: Bio-Based Industries?

BBI stands for Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking. It is a €3.7 billion Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between the EU and the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC). Watch a video explaining BBI here.

The BBI is dedicated to realising the European bioeconomy potential, turning biological residues and wastes into greener everyday products through innovative technologies and biorefineries, which are at the heart of the bioeconomy.

The BBI will fund projects aimed at:

  • Building new value chains based on the development of sustainable biomass collection and supply systems
  • Unlocking the utilisation and valorisation of waste and lignocellulosic biomass;
  • Bringing existing value chains to new levels, through optimised uses of feedstock and industrial side-streams while offering innovative added value products to the market
  • Bringing technology to maturity through research and innovation, by upgrading and building demonstration and flagship biorefineries

The 2017 work program is now available.

What is SuperBIO?

SuperBIO is an innovation project supported through the EU Horizon2020 funding programme. The € 3.8 million project supports the development of promising industrial value chains in the bioeconomy. It therefore engages with the EU bio-based business community. The project provides 10 different types of innovation services to third party SMEs which are funded by the project for 75%.

How can SuperBIO help you strengthening your BBI application for a RIA, DEMO or FLAGSHIP?

BBI proposals should address issues such as LCA, sustainability, regulatory barriers, business planning, techno-economic, feedstock and market information, IP position, technology beyond lab scale (TRL 4) already from the proposal stage. Addressing these issues in a professional way gives you a clear advantage to winning the bet.

SuperBIO gives SMEs access to these services through six service providers at a 75% funding rate. SMEs or consortia that are preparing a BBI submission can submit an application to the SuperBIO project. It is an easy application and low bureaucracy process. Although the deadline for BBI calls 2017 is still far, consortia and ideas are being built as of now.
