PRODUCING MORE BIOGAS FROM PAPER MAKING RESIDUES BY USING EPICELLULYSE XT
Episome Biotechnologies is a Turkish enzyme development company. They developed an industrial enzyme mixture (Epicellulyse XT) that transforms long cellulose chains in paper sludge to shorter ones. The resultant material becomes pumpable and suitable for digestion by methanogenic bacteria. Flanders Biobased Valley connected them with Sappi Lanaken Mill, a Flemish Pulp and Paper Manufacturer and OWS, a Flemish biogas operator in order to investigate the added-value of their technology in this case. They exchanged samples to test the enzyme mix and to determine the biogas potential and Episome received support in regulatory landscape analysis with NNFCC and economics and market research with nova-institute.
