Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant
Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant (BBEPP) is a flexible and diversified pilot plant for the development and up-scaling of new, bio-based processes. It is capable of scaling up and optimizing a broad variety of bio-based processes up to an industrial level (from 5L to 50.000L scale, depending on the process). It can perform the entire value chain, from the green resources up to the pure and refined product. BBEPP intends to close the gap in the innovation chain of the bio-based economy, bridging science and industrial production. It is operating according to the open innovation service model: Companies and research institutes throughout the world that are active in the bio-based economy can make use of this test facility for their technological developments. BBEPP was selected by the European Commission as a multi-KET Pilot Lines demonstrator (www.mkpl.eu). BBEPP is located in the port of Ghent, Belgium.
BBEPP‘s core activity is development and up scaling of bio-based processes. It has built up significant expertise in biomass pretreatment, fermentation, biocatalysis, green chemistry and product recovery, purification and conditioning for industry and in collaboration with academia.
BBEPP has experience in bringing different actors of one value chain together, and is involved in several networking projects on renewable products, bio catalysis & piloting towards creating awareness, identifying hurdles and policy advice. BBEPP has performed processes for companies and research institutes, and as such is well aware of the needs and new developments going on in research as well as in industry.
